Taiwan is an island located in East Asia, off the southeastern coast of China. It is situated between the East China Sea to the north, the Philippine Sea to the east, the Luzon Strait to the south, and the Taiwan Strait to the west. Geopolitically, Taiwan is officially known as the Republic of China (ROC), and it consists of the main island of Taiwan, as well as several smaller islands and archipelagos. The capital city of Taiwan is Taipei, located in the northern part of the island. Taiwan is often depicted on world maps as a small island to the southeast of mainland China.
