Why do you think there isn’t an animation program that lowers the barrier to entry (like Unity does for video games) so that you don’t need $500,000 from a major studio to get your cartoon made without taking 10 years?

    Blender exists…

  2. Kavya says:

There is, Blender is a free open source animation software with it’s own built in rendering engine. Not quite industry grade, but very close.

  3. Hollyanne says:

I think you don’t understand that $500k from a major studio doesn’t get you software alone, so much as the manpower necessary to produce a cartoon. Art directors, designers, rigging artists, editors, etc. There’s no real software which entirely replaces all those roles and certainly not on a low budget. Even Blender doesn’t let you fulfill all roles and functions, and is about as complicated as it gets (look up the keyboard shortcut reference lol). Toon Boom Harmony by comparison has a lower cost barrier, but is more accepted by industry for 2D animation.
