  1. The Sioux leader who famously fought the U.S. Army to a standstill was Sitting Bull.

He was a Hunkpapa Lakota chief and spiritual leader who played a major role in resisting U.S. government policies and military campaigns in the 19th century. He is best known for:

Battle of the Little Bighorn (1876)

Sitting Bull didn’t fight directly in the battle but inspired the resistance with a vision during a Sun Dance ceremony. His leadership united the Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes. The actual fighting was led by warriors like Crazy Horse, but the U.S. 7th Cavalry, led by General George Custer, was defeated.

It was one of the most significant Native American victories over the U.S. military.
