Chances are US will need to deal with the Chinese bases in the South China Sea as these bases can be used to keep Guam busy and cut Guam off from the US forces already near Taiwan, and potentially allow China to make a pincer movement on Taiwan. I think what US is currently doing to China is to hold them hostage to their need of raw materials like chips to make their smart devices, and also China’s access to their customers outside China. By having more bargaining chips on the US side, the more China will just keep issuing threats and harassment, rather than actual war because both sides know things will not end well for both sides if a real fight broke out.
Probably secretly keep them armed and supplied while banking on China not wanting to enter direct conflict with the United States. We do love our proxy wars.
I think of Taiwan the same way I do about Crimea, there’s not much we can do, we weren’t going to go to war with Russia, we can’t go to war with China. The land dispute is larger in this case but perhaps not large enough We did levy heavy sanctions on Russia which I could see happening
Nothing. All we can do is flex our military muscle in the Taiwan Strait. We can deter China from taking Taiwan but we can’t fully stop them. If China decides to go to war over the matter Taiwan can’t be held. Honestly speaking? America and the world is pretty powerless to stop China from sucking up it’s neighbors. Diplomacy can’t sort this one out.
