The American National Guard or even regular military are very different from the Chinese PLA. The PLA doesn’t consist of any Hong Kong citizen. The American military is pledged to the country, while the PLA pledges to the CCP. It is the army of the party, not the country. PLA doesn’t recruit from Hong Kong. It is literally impossible to enlist into it as a Hong Konger. They do not recruit openly Muslim and Christian people either. All PLA personnel stationed in HK have to stay inside their barracks even on leave. They cannot leave the base on or off duty. In the 1980s and 1990s, many PLA veterans from the Sino-Vietnam War entered Hong Kong illegally and robbed banks or kidnapped people for ransom. They took assault rifles with them and shot innocents on the act. Many people still fear them.
The difference is the US government really has no alternatives. Leaving everything up to state and city law enforcement will result in large mobs going to new parts of cities every night, burning new buildings, smashing new windows, and destroying new cars. It’s not just wealthy corporations which will suffer huge losses. It’s small mom and pop stores. It’s the taxpayers. It’s employers and employees. It’s home owners. If enough apathy went on all 350 million of us would eventually decide enough is enough. Hong Kong really doesn’t enter into it…
The riots are completely different and should not be compared, hong kong is being completely oppressed by the chinese government that is why they are rioting, while americans had a peaceful protest ruined by some fuckin idiots who wanted to smear a mans memory in order to get free stuff from shops
