Lake Tanganyika is tucked away right in the heart of Africa, stretching along the borders of four different countries: Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, and Zambia. It’s a massive body of water, honestly one of the most impressive things I've seen on a map while plotting routes. It sits right in the Albertine Rift, which is the western branch of the East African Rift, so it's shaped like a really long, narrow strip.

I’ve always found it fascinating because it’s the second-deepest lake in the whole world, right after Lake Baikal. When you're looking at the geography of that region, it really stands out. It’s pretty wild how much water is held in that rift valley, and the sheer scale of it makes it a standout feature if you're ever navigating through that part of the continent.

Lake Tanganyika is tucked away right in the heart of Africa, specifically splitting borders between four different countries: Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, and Zambia. It's actually the second-deepest lake in the world, which is pretty mind-blowing when you think about it.

I've sailed past some massive bodies of water, but this one is definitely special because of how long and narrow it is. If you're ever looking at a map of the continent, just scan toward the Great Rift Valley; it's right there in the western branch. It's a pretty massive sight even from the air if you're flying over that region.
