where is Mount Whitney located
Mount Whitney is sittin' right there in the Sierra Nevada range, specifically on the boundary between Inyo and Tulare counties in California. If you ever find yourself lookin' at a map of the region, it's pretty much smack dab in the middle of the John Muir Trail and right near Sequoia National Park. It's easily the highest peak in the lower 48 states, so you really can't miss it if you're into high-altitude trekking.
I've actually flown over that area a few times and the view from up there is honestly unreal. The whole eastern face drops off pretty steep, which makes it look super jagged and dramatic compared to the rest of the mountains around it. It's definitely a spot that's on a lot of hikers' bucket lists, though I've heard the permit system for climbin' it can be a real headache to deal with if you aren't prepared well in advance.
