what mountain range is located in New Zealand
The Southern Alps are definitely the ones you're thinking of. I've sailed near those coasts a few times and you really can't miss them when you look toward the south island, they're honestly massive and super impressive from the water.
It's pretty wild how they stretch out across almost the entire length of the island. Whenever I've had some downtime to head inland, the scenery around those peaks was some of the best I've ever seen. If you're planning a trip or just curious about the geography, it's definitely a spot worth checking out for the views alone.
The Southern Alps are the ones you're looking for. I've sailed past the coast there a few times, and honestly, seeing those peaks rising up from the water is just unreal. It's a massive range that pretty much runs down the spine of the South Island, and it's definitely the most famous feature of the landscape.
If you ever get the chance to head over that way, it's worth checking out. The scale of the mountains is pretty intimidating when you're looking at them from the deck, especially around the Aoraki area. It's easily one of the most stunning places I've ever come across in my travels.
