the 1944 Battle for Leyte Gulf. It's basically several smaller battles that all took place almost simultaneously, and it's got every kind of naval warfare you could want. You want battleships dukeing it out? Battle of Surigao Strait. You want a lot of planes and dogfights? Battle of the Sibuyan Sea. You want desperation, tension, and all around badass-I'm-not-crying-sacrifice? Battle off Samar. I mean, dudes were flying planes with little to no armament against battleships as they watched their carriers get overtaken and destroyed, then they had to land on the actual island of Leyte, where the marines are fighting on the ground, and then as soon as they jumped out of thier planes they were handed rifles and told to hunker down and fight off an attack on the airstrip. Crazy, crazy stuff, you can tell I've read a bit about it. Check out The Battle for Leyte Gulf by Woodward, excellent book, quite short but beautifully written.

The Haitian Slave Revolution. Slaves overthrowing their owners and establishing their own nation? How has this not been done?
The Cabeza de Vaca expedition. After a failed expedition to locate the fountain of youth, a handful of conquistadors and one African slave are shipwrecked on the Texas coast and spend the next ten years living with natives. They move from tribe to tribe as healers and curiosities as they wander the southwest trying to reach the Spanish lands in Mexico. Kind of like the Odyssey but with conquistadors and Native Americans.
The assassination of Franz Ferdinand needs a dark comedy.
The battle of Schrute Farm
"Not to espouse my bias as a former coastie but "Roarin" Mike Healy of the US Coast Guard. Born of an irish settler and african american slave, the first black man to command a US vessel in service of the United States government. Was in charge of the then lawless Alaskan territory and faced numerous discharge attempts in light of his unconventional law-keeping methods. Has a ship named after him to this day. "
The Night Witches An all female WWii fighter squadron in Russia First women to be allowed to fly combat missions They used old biplanes in WW II They had handme down uniforms and boots that didn't fit Had to fight and steal for ammo and supplies Older planes had lower stall speeds so they could out maneuver the Nazis Older planes were made of canvas and wood and got decimated if hit buy enemy fire. tracer bullets would ignite the canvas they had no parachutes no radar open cockpits in freezing tempratures They would turn off their engines on bombing runs so no one would hear them coming earning the nickname by terrified Germans. They would fly 8 missions a night some even doing 18 missions in one night Its a no brainier Hollywood
The Raid on Medway where the Dutch sailed up the Thames and destroyed the British fleet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raid_on_the_Medway
Witold Pilecki's life. Homeboy was a resistance fighter in the Warsaw Uprising*, not longer after he had himself purposely thrown into Auschwitz so that he could organize a slave revolt from within the camp.
Not so much an event as a person. Mad Jack Churchill. Pretty much any part of WWII would be good but I expect people would say it isn't believable enough.
