Travelers have you been to a region where certain fungal infections are common, and how the heck do you know?

Southern Illinois. Caught some fungal infection driving through construction. They kept asking me if I had been in bat caves. I caught it in October but didn't fall super ill till December. So I thought they were crazy. Three days in the hospital and turns out it was histoplasmosis.
