If all the countries in the world suddenly closed their borders and stopped all trade, which countries would be fucked and which countries would be ok?

I expect that Japan, Germany, UK, and any country dependant on oil (middle east) or tourism (most island nations) would be in the most trouble. What with the inability to grow enough food and the heavy dependance on export for their economies. I expect the US would suffer for 18 or so months while production is brought online but after that it would do better than just about every other country simply because available resources match demand well. Bauxite (which is necessary to make Aluminum) is the only resource the U.S. doesn't have or can't replace in a way to meet demand. So we would basically have to live off of recycled aluminum (which should be enough so long as it becomes industrial use only).

Nauru would be fucked.. no water for them. New Zealand would be ok, it has an economy based on farming. It supplies 1/3 of the worlds dairy so NZ wont run out of milk. Australia will be ok as well as it also has enough agriculture to sustain itself. Some of the african nations may struggle. Japan may also struggle

I'd hazard an uninformed opinion that Canada and China would be some of the few countries with enough resources to support their population. Obviously the poorest countries would be the least affected as they already don't import much.

"Pretty sure Northern Ireland would be "fucked". Farms are becoming more of a rarity, and the only food we really produce are beef, dairies, pork and some random vegetables. And even then I doubt it'll support a couple of million people for long. The only electricity we produce is from wind farms, and most of the rest comes from imported oils. "

The UAE would be the most fucked ever, particularly Dubai. They import water. They have no farmland. The basically have to rely on import and trade for everything.

The US would be pretty alright. We are one of the worlds leading producers of oil and produce. We'd have a few years of building to do though.
