If you throw a rock into a lake, you might be the last person that ever touches it. What else are you likely the only person to ever touch?

In 1987, a friend who was married - was - found out his wife was cheating. He gave me his wedding ring and told me to throw it over the side at midnight from the highest point on the boat. I had the 0000 to 0600 watch on the 010 level onboard the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) and he worked on the 2nd deck - the first fully enclosed deck below the lowest weather deck. Since I was 10 stories up, at midnight, in the middle of the Indian Ocean, that ring flew from the starboard side of the 010 level flag bag. No, I didn't hear it hit nor would anyone who wasn't a canine. It's out there, somewhere, sitting on the bottom of the ocean, never to be touched by human hands again - but that was the idea.
