Anything outside of Hollywood film. I'm not saying Hollywood is trash, but it does have the strictest profit based agenda which stifles a lot of creativity and results in homogeneity. Non Hollywood film has its own issues but at least they're different. Director:films Cassavetes: Shadows, A Woman Under the Influence, Opening Night, Faces Godard: Breathless, Vivre Sa Vie, Weekend, Pierrot le Fou Tarkovsky: Solaris, Stalker, Andre Rublev, The Mirror Bergman: The Seventh Seal, Persona, Scenes from a Marriage Antonioni: Red Desert, L'avventura, Blow Up Kurosawa: High and Low, Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Ikiru, Ran Ozu: Tokyo Story, Early Spring Suzuki: Tokyo Drifter, Branded to Kill Fellini: 8 1/2, La Dolce Vita, La Strada Zulawski: Posession, The Third Part of the Night I'll stop here. There's an inexhaustible amount of other great directors from this time period (mid '50s-1981) and an inexhaustible amount of great earlier film that I didn't even mention.

I've never seen Requiem for a Dream. I take that back, I've seen about 10 minutes of it, but I couldn't stand it.

My partner was raised Mormon and wasn't allowed to watch most movies so pretty much on a daily basis I'll mention a movie that she hasn't seen.

Work on your listing skills, at least use comma's. Some of these might be repeats, but consider that even more reason for them to be esential viewing. Star wars IV-VI, History of the World Part 1, Young Frankenstein, Platoon, Princess Bride, 2001 Space Odessy, Casseblanca, Citizen Cain, Dance's with wolves, God Father, Birds, Psycho, Ben Hur. I'm at work atm but at home I have a list just like this for my little brother (17) who my sister (27) and I (25) are trying to educate, its over 100 movies long including the crossed off ones.

Glad to see Paprika in that list. Amazing film but so bizzare. I'd suggest also, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Apocalypse Now, Barry Lyndon, Perfect Blue, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Misery, My Left Foot, No Country for Old Men and Fargo. To name some off the top of my head. EDIT: Also, This Is Spinal Tap.
