who received an actual mix-tape in the 80's/90's from a crush, do you ever dig it out and listen to it for nostalgia?

I haven't had a cassette player in nearly 20 years. But I probably know every song on it. I grew up with some of the most mainstream tastes you could ever engineer. Some metal, some older punk, but that was it. Electronics were soulless in my opinion and nothing could convince me otherwise. She made me a tape with bands like Depeche Mode, KMFDM, Revolting Cocks, Nine Inch Nails, Machines of Loving Grace and others like that. It literally changed my life. Seeking out more from these artists put me in different places and in touch with people I never would have met and became friends with. It literally introduced me to entire worlds and the people in them who were into this music. I'm still in touch with the person who made me the tape. She got pretty mainstream, pretty normal. Meanwhile I'm going to see bands in that genre as often as I can and it's still something I take great joy in.

"Not from a crush but my best friend. He had every Weird Al album and made me a mix of our favorite songs using one of those dual cassette tape decks. This was 1996, when we were 10. He recorded an intro at the begining of him saying "For my best bud, stay weird". We later added a few songs from "Running With Scissors" when it came out. He took his own life 15 years later when we were 25. I ended up with his old dual cassette tape deck, his mom gave it to me because we used the hell out of that thing, making fake radio shows, singing to songs, and just goofing off. I still play that tape all the way through when I miss him. "

Absolutely. Like I am gonna stop jamming to Nsync and Brittney Spears just cos I got my heart broken in 5th grade.

My husband was cleaning boxes in the attic and found one some boy made me 40 years ago. It was as a 8 Track! Wouldn't let him throw it out either.

I've got nothing to play it on, and I'm not even sure I've still got it, but someone made me a mixtape just before he asked me out. We weren't together for long, but he was one of the kindest, sweetest people I have ever known. We stayed friends, but went our separate ways. He died a few years later. Nothing Else Matters by Metallica floors me every time I hear it, because it was on that tape and it reminds me of him. Edit to add words.

My wife made me a mix-CD early on in our relationship that was seriously the best mix I've ever heard. Introduced me to so many bands that I absolutely love still. I lost it (think it was stolen) years ago, and we still talk about it some 10 years later.

"In the 90's, a guy, who I had met online but never met in person, sent me a mixed cd. Unfortunately, I really don't remember much about the guy who sent it to me other than that he was a graphic artist. I want to say from California... He made a cover with a black lion and a white lion rearing on a pentagram, which I thought was pretty cool. The CD was filled with music I liked pseudo-goth, EBM, and the like. I no longer have the cd, but ripped a copy of the cd in iTunes, and still have it on my phone. I listen to it for nostalgias sake on road trips. Placebo's "pure morning" is a great highway song. "

I have some old mixed CDs from high school boyfriends as well as my regular friends. It was a fun way to swap music with each other! I took all those CDs with me when I moved halfway across the country and listen to them in my car daily.
