People who abandoned their pets.. WTF's wrong w you?

Sometimes you have to, I think. I got really upset with a family member for abandoning their dog. I never expressed that to them because I understood on some level that I wasn't there and I can't know. And I'm glad I did because I understand now. The dog was a rescue in the first place. The sweetest thing but it had extreme anxiety and that translated in to having to protect itself and its masters. This person tried all sorts of things. Socialization, training with an expert, muzzling in public. But it just could not be controlled. The dog attacked a kid that tried to pet it through the 6' fence for example. Attacked someone the dog had already accepted in the home because they walked too close to one of the dog's humans. What else could have been done? I wish there was something because I loved that dog so much and it still breaks my hear that it might have been put down (part of the surrender is the owner could never get any update about him). But... what were they s

It wasn't my pet but a neighbors. I just forgot about it until they got back from their two week vacation, forgot to take em out of the cage.

Several people have seemed surprised that I'm not going to leave my cats behind because I'm moving. Pisses me off.

Abandoned my dog to my parents who can take better care of her, while I move back to the city, where it's difficult to find an accommodating but cheap flat.

If I ever meet someone who did this, it may in fact be the only time in my life I'd punch someone in the face.

I just stopped feeding it one day, slowly starved to death lol.

"I knew someone who wanted a pit bull. Why, I have no idea, it was just her idea of a dog. She mentioned this and I said "You know, they are really high energy dogs and you work kind of long hours." She got annoyed and stopped talking to me about dogs. A week later she gets a pit bull rescue and immediately starts complaining about how its chewing up the house. She tried a trainer - but ended up "sending the dog back" so it could find a better home. I found out after and never had the heart to tell her that a twice rejected pit bull is almost definitely going to be killed. "
