What did you get on your SAT? Or ACT? Did you study?

I got a 1420 on my SAT (new scale which tops out at 1600) and a 30 on my ACT. For both tests, I scored super high in English/writing and just OK in math. My memory is hazy but I think I lightly studied math before both. I got to take two PSATs in 10th and 11th grade before I took the SAT, and I had one prior (and much worse) ACT attempt before the one on which I got a 30. So I have had significant practice for both. My scores are not as high as my parents' scores -- I know that when my mom was in high school, she got a 32 on the ACT, and my dad scored so high on one of the tests (I think the SAT) that he was the top scorer for his entire region. Basically I descend from standardized test gods and only inherited a fraction of their power. Oh yeah, also, standardized tests are not a measure of intelligence. Especially not the English/composition sections. To this day I can only confidently analyze a piece of text if my analysis is one of four or five pre-written options...

That is something I have never understood about american education. What is SAT and ACT?

Didn't study, and got a 21 on my ACT. Good thing I have no intentions to go to college! (Mostly because US post-secondary education is little more than a massive scam.) I did get a 9 on the writing test though, which is in the 96th percentile. The prompt had something to do with the fashion industry, so I just turned it into an anti-capitalist rant.

In between when I took them (1991) and when my brother took them (1995), scoring was recalibrated. We had fights about this because technically he scored higher but it was easier to do so. (These were fights then, not now, no one gives a shit any more). Anyway, the year I took them, I got 1290 and the average score was 1000. Didn't study and was, in fact, hung over.

I got a 30 on my ACT. I didn't study. I was also pretty stoned for the later two portions of the test thanks to an edible I had a bit before the first portion. That was over a decade ago, though.

I took an SAT prep class over the summer and that was about it. It was a while ago and I think they changed the scoring but I was within 100 points of the max.
