Is your check engine light on? And for how long?

Not this car, but the last car I had it came on and stayed on. I ignored it because that happens sometimes, but it never went out. Then it started blinking and and the car started shaking as I was going over a bridge, and I come to find out the catalytic converter went out. The last day I drove it, it sucked up a quarter tank of gas to go to and from work (14 miles round trip). Oh, that's a problem. Oh, that light can mean something sometimes. Well, there were other things wrong with that car that made it not worth fixing so I got another car a couple months ago, and on this car no dummy light comes on

Mine is on quite a lot, but I (well actually my sister, before it became a hand-me-down to me) had it checked and there wasn't anything found, so I think it's messed up somehow??
o2 sensors make this light fucking pointless. Every car I have ever driven throws the light from a damn o2 sensor. No one ever fixes those. So you then drive around with a car with the check engine light on forever. thus forced to check it every 2 months just in case another code came on. stupid. don't fucking tell me one of my 6 o2 sensors is bad unless you are going to tell me which fucking one it is.
a faulty gate in the emissions system, stays stuck open. only minorly affects gas milage. tried to fix it but because of my dusty environment they don't stay fixed for long. the lights been on long enough to burn out so
Long enough that I can't remember when I put the black tape over it.
"Fun fact for people that don't know this. If your check engine light is on, you can bring it to an Autozone and they will plug your car into an OBD reader to tell you what codes are coming up. Can save you the "diagnosis" fee at the shop. "
Yep, since October. Just an o2 sensor so I don't give a shit
No. If it was I would have pulled that fuse the second it turned on.
"Yes. I have a Land Rover (notoriously shitty), and it's been on for about 2 weeks now. I'm pretty sure it's just the gas cap sensor, because I also get a "gas cap loose or missing" message when I start my car. That being said, I have no idea & it will probably die on me one of these days. Woo. "
My service car light has been one for 2 montgs
