Do you think IB/AP classes are truly worth it? Why or why not?

"It depends a lot on what college you end up at. I took a bunch in highschool and got almost all 5s (poor planning meant I had to rush through half my 2-D Studio Art portfolio in the last 2 weeks of class), and of the schools I got into, one would have given me 60 credits (out of the 120 needed to graduate), allowing me to skip a ton of gen-ed and intro classes. The uni I eventually ended up attending only gave me 30-something (/120), and they were almost entirely in weird elective classes (e.g. "science for non-majors") that weren't ultimately good for anything. But hey, they were free to take (except a couple I self-studied IIRC), and they looked sorta good to colleges during application seasons (depending, again, on the school -- some probably don't give 'em much weight), so you might as well give them a go! And even if you don't take a particlar class, you can still work through its prep-book and do well enough on the exam. "

So worth it. Depending on the college, you can skip so many gen ed courses and focus on the more interesting stuff. I am sophomore now and AP has allowed me to take a second major simply because I realized that my AP credit allowed me to potentially finish my first major in 2 years.
My instinct says that they aren't. I took them in high school bug they didn't end up counting because I went to a liberal arts college where they didn't apply to their general education program. It also felt like the classes were taught with the test in mind, rather than the subject at hand (especially English). Most of all, I wish I had scaled back a little bit more on my studies and focused instead on building relationships with my friends and family and pursued music a little more seriously.
Do not do the IB. Take it from an IB graduate. It is utter bullshit.
Very worth it! Very easy compared to actual college classes, very cheap compared to college, and it saves you time and thus money. I went into freshman year with 30 credits. If your school doesn't offer many classes, you can do them online most of the time. Also check your state laws. In Wisconsin if the high school doesn't offer a similar course, the school has to pay for you to take a class at the local college. I took abnormal psych my high-school senior year at the local uni
I got a lot of credits from them, which definitely made it worth it.
If your High school offers post secondary, take those courses instead, you are more likely to get the college credit, and it's still free.
I just graduated from high school in Canada, and when I was in grade 8 I was approached for pre-Ib. I refused because I wanted to take classes a grade higher instead, in order to graduate earlier then normal. Looking back, I'm very happy I did this, as I saw how stressed the IB student were. Most had little to no time to actually do dumb shit and enjoy being a teenager, they were constantly doing school activities. I would never had lasted since I love doing dumb shit myself b
IB - not worth it if you're in America, unless your goal is to join a foreign university. AP is much cheaper and easier too. AP - definitely worth it. My high school gave a 1.0 grade boost for AP classes.
I'm an IB senior right now and I absolutely think that if you're up for challenging yourself, the IB program is worth it. Especially since I live in Florida, if you get your IB diploma you automatically get the highest Bright Futures scholarship, which pays for a lot of tuition in Florida schools. It has also made me proficient in Spanish so that's cool too.
