If Marijuana is illegal in the U.S. due to misguided policies, why is marijuana illegal in so many other countries?

"Facts about Marijuana... 1) Its the only "drug" that you cannot overdose on. There is no example of anyone ever dying from Marijuana without preexisting health problems attributing to their death. 2) Marijuana was made illegal because HEMP which is from the Cannabis plant was pressured into a ban because the lumber industry considered it a threat to their monopoly. (Hemp grows faster than trees, it is better environmentally because the plants grow back faster meaning less land is needed and it has uses far beyond anything that plain wood can do) 3) It has been proven that THC can slow and even stop the growth of tumors in cancer patients. There are idiots all over the world dude. Just because everyone is doing things a certain way doesn't mean they are correct in their actions. "

Most countries, for the lack of better judgement, will go with another nation's policy if they aren't sure of their own. I'm sure quite a few followed their neighbors, and some followed the U.S. It doesn't make it right though. Make it legal, tax it, and move on. On the drug scale, it could be a lot worse. And if people are worried about drivers that are high, have a breathalizer, but if you do then the punishment for driving when intoxicated and high would have to be much higher to be a deterrent.
"A few reasons. American pressure is one reason. Religion is a major factor in many countries. Also, a little problem I have with that map is the "Probably Illegal" section. "Probably Illegal" tells me they don't know what the legal status of weed is in that country, and those countries should be put under "No information" "
im worried that if it's legalized the cigarette companies will put all those shit chemicals in the paper and it will be really bad for you
US foreign aide. You play the game, you get the cash...
I think people (in other countries) started enjoying too much, their government thought this way the country are going nowhere, so they checked what was up in U.S and decided that people should chill lesser now and fucking do something to progress.. and followed U.S.
Misguided policies.
"Well if you're already on wikipedia why don't you find out why by reading for each country? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_cannabis_by_country For instance, in the article for Canada: More likely, cannabis was added to the list because of Canadian involvement in international conferences where it was discussed. According to one government official, cannabis was outlawed after the Director of the Federal Division of Narcotic Control returned from League of Nations meetings where the international control of the drug was broached. Also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Opium_Convention (contained wording about other drugs such as "indian hemp") "
ITT: Teenager stoners blame the US for making weed illegal in nations where it was illegal before it was in the US. This also goes to show you how stupid marijuana makes you. But it's good for an upset stomach and insomnia.
"a few years ago when it was up for reclasification in the uk my then boss got an email from his friend in the US informing him of the dangers and to be against it 'cause it be the devil and the path to destruction (or something to that effect anyway). so i guess it comes down to "special interest groups" have an "interest" in spreading there "interests" to other "places of interest" "
