As others have said, it's 2020 and things aren't as uptight as they used to be. That being said, I think it's kind of a regional thing. I work for a firm which does environmental remediation for big businesses (usually utilities) and in my role of hiring people for my job, I don't hire people with visible tattoos or your non-traditional piercings (ears ok, I'd be ok with nose too as long as it wasn't something too far fetched). But gauges in the ears, face tattoos, obscene tattoos that are visible are all a no go for hiring. I personally don't have anything against them, but my industry tends to deal with more traditional people who have an antiquated view of how the world is now. When a potential client immediately dismisses your company based on the appearance of one of your employees, its extremely disheartening and unfortunately will make you shy away from hiring said people. Again, in a different region like say in Cali or New York it would be a whole lot different.

I work in veterinary medicine during the week and run a little hipster smoothie shop on the weekends. I have a visible wrist tattoo, smaller one on my shoulder blade and the under part of my hair has been about 5 different colors (blue, teal, pink, purple, and green) over the last 3 years. Ear lobes, cartilage and navel pierced. I get tons of compliments on my hair. People have even asked to touch it (my hair is long and thick). Not many notice my tattoo but I do get comments on it once in awhile. No one seems to really care. Quite a few of us at both jobs have dyed hair or visible tattoos

I'm a dog groomer. Most people in this industry seem to have piercings and tattoos. I've never had an issue at job interviews. As a dishwasher, one place tried to get me to take out my facial piercing but I told them that if it was an issue I would just find somewhere else to work so they let me keep it lmao

"I (21f) work in a prison, a male maximum security prison. i'm not an officer, i assess/interview inmates- specifically gang affiliated individuals and those with "highest" crimes. I've been at this facility for over 2 years, i have pretty natural hair but i do have hand and finger tattoos and two sleeves- as well as gauged ears. I do know that a lot of officers and staff members have lots of visible hand/throat tattoos. our policy for staff is vague but so long as you don't have hate related/gang related/sexually graphic tattoos on display- you're good. I believe the officers policy is a little stricter but as we are so shorthanded with security i believe it is becoming more lenient. "

Work in healthcare. Half my ER staff have visible tattoos, piercings, and/or dyed hair. Yet, I have seen a nurse get fired for the wrong color shoes. Hospital management is dumb.

I'd love to get some tattoos, but I've always been afraid of this. It might be unsaid, or it might even be subconscious, but I just don't trust that I'm not going to discriminated against when it comes to jobs.

I wouldn't care if the cashier at Walmart ringing me up was covered in tattoos and piercings. but I wouldn't want the person drawing my blood to have them. just saying.

I work in a fashion in an office setting for a luxury brand, I got hired with purple hair and my tats showing. It's supposed to be a business casual setting but people show up in sweats a lot and no one says a thing. They recently recommended me to interview for Prada in their corporate office and I asked if I should dye my hair and cover tats. They said no need to. I think the workforce is changing as now the people who were once dying their hair green and getting tramp stamps are likely in senior roles in companies now.

I work in an upper management position, like typical formal attire. I have a tongue piercing and my ears are pierced all over, I have tattoos too but those remain hidden. No one has ever complained, and in recent years I've even spoken with people in similar positions with noticable face piercings. My COO has a visible tattoo on the back of his hand even. Edit: Also dyed hair seems to really not have a taboo around it anymore. Ever since I've been working I've never heard someone denied on hair color.

"I clean office buildings. Before that I worked behind counter in toys store. Only once I happen to get rejected. It was by an old wrinkly lady that clearly didn't like my sky blue hair. The same office building. I was told "I found someone from family who's interested" but it was clearly because of my hair. "
