Are there any European lawyers who can answer a question on Article 6 of the European Convention with regards to hearsay and the right of confrontation?

disclaimer: american non-lawyer I don't think opening or closing arguments, at least in the US, are subject to the same scrutiny as the rest of the trial. As such his statements about this unnamed party's statement are not entered into evidence and the defense is free to provide counter arguments. European courts aren't wholly different from American ones as far as rights of the accused go, but I would also like to hear a lawyer's perspective on this
