There's this super disturbing/depressing story I read in 9th grade. I can't remember the name, but it was about this kid that has some kind of muscular disorder where he has to wear a body brace. He puts stickers all over his brace (random detail I remember). He also has a debilitating mental disorder that borderlines down syndrome levels of functioning. His family is abusive and the system has failed him. He is addicted to masturbation and an isolated creep that feels intense loneliness. He is also very much an incel with a horrific sexual obsession. And, if I remember correctly, at one point he even sexually assaults a girl at his school. It's gut wrenching to read. And there's no positivity in it at all. Really wish I could remember the name of it.

"The shortest disturbing short story I ever read is the first two lines of knock (quite often referenced instead of the whole story) by Fredric Brown: "The last man on Earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock on the door... "

The Cold Equations by Tom Godwin. The story is that there is a guy in a space capsule designed to hold one person and get them to a certain planet. He is going to deliver meds to a mining camp or colony. The fuel onboard is very limited, exactly the amount to get him to the planet, no more no less. He finds that a girl has stowed away onboard because her brother is on the same planet as the capsule is going to. The pilot of the capsule knows that they both won't be able to make it and the girl must be put out of the airlock. They talk a bit, he lets her talk to her brother over the radio and then she is ejected from the ship.

"Shoot, there are a lot of them. Probably either "The Landlady" by Roald Dahl, "The Veldt" by Ray Bradbury, or "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. "

"The stories of brothers grimm my polish grandma read to me. Most disturbing of all of them was "Struwelpeter" and "Zappelphilipp". Never will understand how one could think it's a good idea to tell those stories to children "

I forget what this story is called and where it's from, but basically this girl gets in her car at night after seeing a movie and on her way home she notices that she's being followed. Shortly after making this realization her pursuant starts flashing her highbeams at her. They'd turn them on for a while and then off for a beat. On. And off. She was ready to dial 911 when she arrived home and she hadn't lost her tail. The person following her got out of their car and told the girl that there was someone hiding in her back seat who was trying to stab her and every time they appeared behind her with a knife the follower flashed his highbeams to keep them at bay. Since hearing this I always check my back seat before getting in my car.
