this'll probably get buried....This about my SO and my pops. My closest friend in life who was also my cousin ended his life after a long 5 years dealing with being bi-polar. My SO and I had only been dating for a few months and had only met my cousin once. We had a bunch of family stuff and she gave me some space to be with them. But she did come to the funeral and had to sit in the front row with me. She quietly balled her eyes out the entire time. Probably more than myself and i was about as dry as a leaky well. I know funerals are extremely sad and even if you dont know the person you'll probably shed a tear but she was sincerely sad for this loss of someone she barely knew. That day my dad called me with a choked up voice and told me I found a girl with compassion for others and that i should do everything to hold on to that. Well he sure as hell was right and shes one of the most selfless persons I've ever met. He pesters me on a weekly basis to propose to her.

"My parents already loved my SO early on because he was always pleasant and made them laugh. Well, the first time he met my grandparents was before we were going to Greece for a break, our first holiday together. As we were leaving to go, my SO gave my grandma a hug and said quietly so no one else could hear: "don't worry, I'll take care of her". He must have noticed she was worried because it was the first time I went away without my parents. "
Mine was my niece's girlfriend. She'd brought home a couple girls in the past who's turned out to be faux-gay, in that they would get with a girl to get the attention of guys. Broke my niece's heart both times. This latest one, however, earned her place in our family. Some shit went down that resulted in my niece coming to live with me. When her GF was over one night I happened to overhear them talking. I'm not going to post what was said that's between them. I will say that what this girl said was deeply touching and almost brought me to tears. I hope they make it. I know I'll be happy to have her as part of our family.
My sister just got married to a guy she was dating for I think 6 years. I was pretty hesitant at first because my sister had been with a dude who was STILL stalking her. At the time I was REALLY obsessed with car racing. I remember he and his family came out for a barbeque. I was an angry dude so I just stayed inside and watched car racing. And then one of his family members came in and started talking to me about the American Le Mans race I was watching. I guess he had done some work with one of the teams engineers? I can't remember exactly what it was. And then this guy said that the dude my sister was dating was ALSO into cars and racing. That's when I figured: 'this guy's all right'. Also whenever I go to visit we try and get a few races of Forza in. I'm pretty sure he cheats. Also, B: If you're reading this, all the awesome dead baby jokes help your cause. Keep them coming they're hilarious.
"My boyfriend won my dad over by taking me to several different doctors' offices when I was having medical issues about a month after we started dating. He also stayed calm enough to speak with my parents on the phone and tell them what was going on while I was freaking myself out too much to talk. My dad has always said he "likes him well enough" with previous boyfriends, but has told me several times he likes my current boyfriend a lot and thinks he's a good guy. :) I agree! "
I was always really hesitant around my cousin's girlfriend because she's stunningly pretty. I figured she was probably just some stupid dumb blonde that didn't really care about my cousin. On top of that, I was extremely jealous of how pretty she is. She also happened to my my aunt's (my cousin's mother's) hair stylist. One day, my mom and I went to her salon to get a hair cut and get our nails done, and she did an awesome job on both of us. They talked the most, and I was pretty quiet. The next time I went to see her, I went by myself and we just had a talk-athon. It was awesome and I learned so much about her while also getting her to know me. Honestly, when I go to her to get my hair cut or my nails done, I love it because we just talk for ~3 hours. She's such a sweet girl and I love her--I can't wait until her and my cousin get engaged.
"Mom's story of coming to like my SO: Our first Christmas together we went to my parents for the morning to exchange gifts. In the middle of all the chatter, my Mom's super shy cat jumped up into my SO's lap. We were all shocked because this was one of those hide-under-the-bed/extremely nervous cats that would ONLY sit on my Mom's lap. SO started letting the cat and asked "which one is this?" (There were 4 cats and all of them were black...it's kind of a family thing.) My mom started crying and has told me since that it was the moment she knew SO was sweet and compassionate and perfect for me. 4 years later... SO and I have our own black cat :) who my rents call their Grandkitten. "
He didn't, I hate that little fucker.
My fiance won my mum over before she even met him as my boyfriend (she knew him before as my brothers friend) He's risking a lot by dating me. My brother and all his friends who looked at me as a little sister. She knew how serious he was about me before I even said anything. That and the fact he completely spoils me and dotes on me completely. Also the proposal made her very jealous. When my dad first met him as my so, he had an hour long conversation with him, my dad hates conversations and isn't a big fan of people.
I told my gf at the time that she needed to quit smoking and calm down with the drinking if she wanted to stay together...her parents were very happy.
