I'm an ignorant American. I hear all about the political issues of the USA, but not other countries. What are some of the hotly-debated political issues other countries are currently discussing internally?

"In Italy, there is no debate. On the one hand, Berlusconi owns (Mediaset, family newspapers) or controls (national TV) the national media, on the other there are communist nostalgics who think that the main thing is to be morally superior. Journalism in this country - while being (I hope) a dying profession everywhere - is at its most frivolous. Journalists consider themselves commentators and channels for news agencies. They wouldn't know "who, what, where, why, when" if it hit them in the face. Berlusconi wins due to a national failing of character that loves the wise guy and those who through crafty unscrupulousness get by and 'help their friends'. Here people don't seem to have learnt anything from the shambles caused by Mussolini and are quite willing to slide back into the same thing again. Summary: come to Italy for a holiday, but avoid learning enough Italian to understand how morally bankrupt the whole scene is. "

I'm from the Netherlands Antilles, and the biggest issue is about the dissolution of the country. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissolution_of_the_Netherlands_Antilles Apparently some people don't like the terms The Netherlands proposed and now there's a big debate about it.
Hmm...India is: 1. Debating on how to fix education - Indian education is really really screwed up Worried about what happens to terrorism bred in Af/Pak after US leaves, and what will happen with all the weaponry the US is giving Pakistan Wondering how it can fight climate change with the very limited resources, and high development needs that it has, and what stand to take in Copenhagen. Worried about the huge Naxalite (Maoist) insurgency raging across half its rural districts. There is a lot of the usual news about politicians, corruption and crime
"Honduras. Currently a "democracy on hold". Idiot president was ousted, and the international community does not agree with 95% of the Honduran population. Everyone seems to think we want the ousted president back, but most Hondurans don't. He's taken refuge in the Brazilian embassy now. "
"Here in Mexico we have the so-call "war on drugs", Cartel figthing the goverment and each other. A shooting at the Mexico City subway city (film and reproduce prime-time) with the consequences. Hijacking of a Aeroplane by a bolivian minister. And Juanito "

I came on here to give you some shit about Global Warming, but after looking at your first edited post, I started to feel bad because you've done such a great job of collecting all the regional political issues. Well done.
"UAE. Officially "There are no problems". "Everything is fine". If you talk too loud you will be arrested and deported. Maybe not in that order. Unofficially people are wondering if the place is tanking or not. "
