Parents, when you see children on a leash in public, do you think: ""That is such a good idea."" Or ""That is so cruel.""?

Good idea, depending on the kid. Some of them will run off as soon as you're not looking, which is especially dangerous outdoors before they've learned not to run into the street. Others just kind of wander and will get themselves separated from you in stores and malls. I'd rather my kid look a little ridiculous and be safe, than have him kidnapped or killed.

"I think "Welp, we've got a runner". "

It's like seeing a dog with a muzzle. It's not nice, but it's probably necessary.

not a parent, but I was a stupid kid that can and will get lost every chance I get. I can see how it's justified.

As an adult I need to be on a leash lol. I think it's a great idea for curious kiddos who like to wander.

Comically absurd at best, dehumanizing at worst. I'm sure there's specific cases where it's necessary for safety, but I can't help but think that taking away all of kid's agency and room to explore will lead to self-esteem issues and neurosis later in life.

I think theres a spectrum, just like anything else. It can be used abusive/negatively, or constructive/positively.

I'm sorry but i feel it's giving too many kids their first taste of bdsm which they DON'T need at that young of an age.

If they'd been a thing in the early '90s, I might not have a fucked-up knee from a run-in with a car.
