Some people have issues with ear wax buildup. Happens to me once, maybe twice a year. You can go to an ENT specialist, and they can clean it out with this gentle water pick device, which is probably the best option if you have insurance that covers it. Personally, I just use something like this that you can buy at any drug store. Steamy shower, then a couple drops in the ear, wait a few minutes, and you use the little bulb thing with water to clean out whatever wax is there. I've seen some nasty (real) earwax come out, and I always feel like I have bionic hearing afterwards. So that's my suggestion - give her better options that actually work.

The heat melts the earwax and gravity pushes it FURTHER into the ear, causing higher chances for ear infection. Those candles are bad for her health.

Make an appointment with an ear specialist and get them to monitor her hearing and ear health over a period of time. Just let your wife know you are doing this because of your real concern.

My doctor told me to dilute hydrogen peroxide and pour it in my ear, then rinse with water. Works wonderfully.

This occupies the same realm as a religious belief for her. I don't think you'll have much luck convincing her.

How about you just let her do what she would like. I mean honestly within a realm of sane you have no right to have input or tell her what to do with her own body.

"If she's woo prone, she'll only grab some other new age bullshit method of "eliminating toxins", like coffee ground enemas or foot baths, or colloidial silver, or crystals or.... if the woo is strong in her it's going to be tricky, maybe just stick with the candles! "

What the...? If you've shown her scholarly articles explaining the dangers of ear candles I'm not sure what else you can do... I'm sorry but I'm still baffled as to how anyone could think that's a good idea. Didn't her grandmother teach never to put anything smaller than her elbow inside her ear?
