What is the term for someone that believes in God and angels, heaven and hell etc. But does not believe in the church or the ways the church teaches (if there is any)?

"A person can be Christian without being Catholic, for example. Following the teachings involved but without referring to any organisation for guidance or interpretation. I use Christianity as an example because it's one of the more "organised" faiths with defined churches teaching particular things. So, whatever your faith is you can just call yourself a Christian, Muslim, etc, but as a non-denominational one. Following your own interpretation. "

If your beliefs are derived from a given holy book (Bible, Quran, Torah) then you would probably just be Christian/Muslim/Jewish. If it's more vague and drawn from a sort of spiritual take on the world around you then I might say deist - someone who believes in a deity, but not a theology (that would be a theist).
Theist
I used to believe that it was agnostic but that doesn't seem right. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Protestant?
It's either theist or deist. There are numerous disputes about the exact meaning of each of those words, but they both somewhat fit your question.
I'm not 100% sure about exactly what you're asking, but it sounds like you're referring to someone who is agnostic. Agnostics believe there is a god or superior, supernatural force, but isn't sure on the precise details.
