People who suddenly moved to an entirely new location to get a fresh start, what was your experience?

I was 23 and living in really rural Texas where you're sort of expected to be settled down and popping out babies and I had zero desire to do that. People start looking at you like some weirdo soon to be spinster. I decided to get out and was literally looking at any city moderately big and liberal. Ended up, very randomly, in Portland, OR. This is one of the biggest city of weirdos (in the very best way) and I didn't even register on the weird scale. It was difficult to not know anyone but it was also a great way to reinvent myself. Almost 10 years later it was the very best decision I could have made. Still not married and will probably never have kids but that is the same as a large chunk of the city so I'm not special and I like it like that.

I moved from Prince Edward Island to Idaho to get away from my family about a week before I turned seventeen. I checked the laws, went there on a student visa, and then dropped all my classes after I had my visa stamped for a full refund. With the f1 visa I could work tax free (this has been changed) and I pretty much tried to enjoy myself and see if I could have a decent life. It was a good time, mostly, and a hundred times better than anything I would have found at home.
It was great. My husband and I moved from Wisconsin to Austin, TX. We had a hard time finding jobs in WI, hated the weather, culture and honestly were getting sick of our families and friends. We both have found many good jobs here and it was nice to get to know a different culture. I know TX and WI are both in the US but the two are sooo different and we love it.
I ran away basically from my life with an abusive ex and moved onto a boat 300 miles from my home a year ago I'm glad I did and I think it has saved my life, but now I'm slowly rebuilding from the after math and have a good relationship with my family, I think it just helped as I needed to break the cycle.
"I moved across country after a rough patch in my life. I was hoping to get a fresh start and get out of a downward spiral that was fueled by alcoholism. It ended up making the problem worse due to the fact that I no longer had "real" friends or family around. Every one I knew in the new city I met at bars. In the end my step father drove across country to drag me back home, probably saving my life. "
I've moved a lot, but it was always for a new job that I landed. 3 years ago I moved blindly to a new city after a long period of unemployment. Worked out great. Landed my dream job.
I've restated somewhere new 4 times (mostly because of school). I've learned this - The first year sucks. Its lonely and its hard. It takes about a year to settle and meet new people. Dont make decisions based on the first year.
I moved to Asia over 25 years ago. I felt my life in the US was going nowhere. I blew it by not going to college and had no degree, yet I had no desire to return to school. I was a smart and creative person who wasn't satisfied with the jobs I was getting. So when I was offered a temporary job working in Hong Kong in a field I enjoyed and was good at, I jumped at it. I sold all my belongings and arrived in HK with a suitcase and a guitar. I can't say it was easy, but I leveraged the high-profile temporary job into a series of other jobs that took my life in a different, and more rewarding direction. I've lived in 5 countries in South-east Asia over the years and, at this point, I think I made the right choice for my circumstances at the time.
I still haven't done that but will in next 5-6 years for sure. In area where I would like to go it is easier to find good and well payed job, people are more respectful. So yeah, moving after finishing school
Fucking sucked dont recommend it
