Why is it socially unacceptable and seen as weird for guys to wear skirts when women can wear pants without any issue?

Because it's seen as a step up in social status for women to adopt men's clothing/behavior, but a step down in society for a man to adopt women's clothing/behavior. Both men AND women use female adjectives as insults for men, which brings to mind the thought, that why don't those women realize that they are insulting themselves at the same time by implying that things feminine are less worthy than things masculine.

Skirts are female. Pants are unisex. This happened ~60 years ago. Get with it.

Because a lot of things are pointlessly gendered. It was completely socially unacceptable for Western women to wear pants until very recently historically. IIRC they could be punished under cross-dressing laws.

Men are put above women. Women doing guy stuff is empowering because she's rising above her status. Men doing girl things is humiliating because he's downgrading himself to a status below his own. Not my opinion, just saying it hiw it is.

Women weren't allowed to wear pants for hundreds of years. I believe it has only been acceptable for women to wear pants for around 100 years? Feel free to correct me on that as I'm too tired to look that up

It is not unacceptable everywhere. I've been wearing them for a few years, and I've had very few problems,, certainly none serious enough to make me stop. I think it depends on why you wear them, and how you integrate them into a believable look. I've met a few other guys that wear them, and talked to many more that do so in private. It is still fairly rare though, which is a shame.
