If your employer gave you the option of working 10 hour days Monday-Thursday instead of 8 hour days Monday-Friday, would you do it? Why or why not?

I've been wishing for this for years. I'm a crime scene investigator, and we get a lot of forced, usually last minute, overtime. Shift ends at 4pm but a homicide came in at 2:30? You're staying until 7pm now, usually at the minimum. We've been saying that 10 hour days could fix this. Let's say a normal 8 hour shift is 8A-4P, then 4P-Midnight. If the shifts overlapped, then the first shift would be 8A-6P, and the second shift would be 4P-2A. We wanted it to be like this, but first shift would stop taking runs at 4P, and the last 2 hours is for paperwork and stocking supplies, etc. Wouldn't necessarily clear up ALL of that forced overtime, but it would certainly cut down on the majority of it. Plus who wouldn't want a 3 day weekend every week?

I used to do this at a previous job. The 10 hour days were too long and getting up at 5:30am for a 7am start was brutal.

I already do 10 hours Monday-Thursday and then 8 hours Friday. Its called overtime. But yeah if we weren't so busy a 4 day week would be amazing!

Worked Wed-Sat 10s, loved it. Had so much time to go out of town, visit family, focus on hobbies, and get all my errands done. Only sucked bc everyone else is on the M-F gig and the only day that ever lined up with anyone is Sunday. Left the job for more money, but if 10s were offered I'd take it in a heartbeat. Tues-Fri would be the ideal shift bc no one likes Mondays lol

I did it for the last 13 years. I prefer working a few extra hours a day if I get an extra day off. My new job doesn't do it though.

12-14hrs/day 6-7days/week. Oilfield/Pipeline construction. It will suck your soul dry, but make the bank account pretty. Just got out of it after 5 years on and off.

That's cute, we do 7-12's for three months straight, three months on three off. A virtual cookie if anyone can guess what I do, it involves seclusion and salt

I work 6am to 4pm Monday to Thursday and I absolutely love it. My previous job was in hospitality which sucked. So knowing I get my set 40 hours and a three day weekend is pretty awesome. A four day work week just feels so much shorter than five days - even though I'm technically doing the same amount of hours

My husband would. He's a police officer and they all want to change the schedule four tens instead of five eights, but the captain doesn't want to so he's refusing to change it. It makes me mad.
