People that wear chips under their skin, is it really that useful or just a rigorous gimmick that you grow tired off quickly? What do you use them for?

A friend of mine has one in his arm for the local club. He could put money on it and they could scan it when he bought drinks. The club went bankrupt short after the introduction of these chips so now he has a chip in his arm with about EUR200 on it that he never can get.
