Does anyone else feel that 3D is just an annoying gimmick?

Until we get Full 3D and Movies stop being recorded at 24fps... THEN maybe 3d would work.. 3D is being filmed in what gamers would consider low-fps (24-30fps for both angles) so when the shot pans (like it does A LOT in avatar) you get this blurry double image of the movie where the panning object does not sync with the framerate. From a gaming perspective (and recently brought up by XKCD) movies should adopt a 60fps film. Really smooth and ultra realistic, I'm sure it would cause more wows then 3d.. Then we need REAL 3D.. Right now if your even playing a 3D game/movie and you have the best TV for it, its only going to run at 30fps. 1080p 60fps is what the current standard is.. and because 3D requires 2 separate frames (at different angles) the FPS of the move is 30fps with 2 different angles.. So to achieve 'good and not blurry' 3D we will need a 120fps feed and glasses/theater projects/TVs that can pull that off.. Until then it will seem like crap..

It's a gimmick but not for the reasons anyone has stated: 3D movies are much harder to pirate in theatres (EDIT!)
Now THAT would be some amazing porn.
I remember when color was an annoying gimmick...kids these days...
I saw Avatar in 3D IMAX and then at home on a decent, but not huge, LCD (not in 3D). When I saw it in the theatre, I thought that the 3D did not add anything to it, and granted the IMAX and home screens, experience, etc are quite different, but ultimately, I felt like it was much better in 3D.
It's called business. Once you saturate a market, you need a new product.
About as much as I think color movies are. Or HD television. Or LCD instead of a gigantic CRT monitor. Or ultra-fast broadband over modem. I guess I just think of it as a pretty badass gimmick.
Is it bad if when I was reading this all of my screen looked like it was being shown in 3D?
3D will be cool when you can watch a miniature sports game in your living room from all angles, as if you were above the actual stadium (which is actually something industry is working on, though it'll be a long time coming). Until then, yeah, gimmick.
After watching Avatar in iMax 3-D at the theaters, then watching it on 1080p Blu ray I prefer the 3-D. The Blu Ray looked too much like a good video game but the 3-D looked more real.
