Want some rye? Course ya do! Skimming through the comments people don't have all the details quite right. Rye is a type of whiskey made from at least 51% rye. The rest is often corn but can be any grain. Bourbon is whiskey made from at least 51% corn, with other grains making up the remainder. Canadian blended whiskeys often include a larger portion of rye than their American equivalents. Michter's is a tasty 100% rye. There are others as well.

Rye whiskey is made from rye. Other whiskeys aren't. I'm not a big fan of rye, but it's alright sometimes. edit: Unless it's Canadian apparently, then it might not be made from rye.

"It seems to be very popular in Canada. I can always tell other Canadians when I'm on vacation because "rye and coke" is probably the most common drink order. "

Crown Royal is a rye. Another excellent rye for the money (and my go to rye) is Forty Creeks.

Rye (or what I know as rye) is made of, well, rye, has some spices added into it and is transparent like vodka or maybe very light yellowish but nowhere near as dark as whiskey. I've only drunk it in a pub and it was home made - I've never seen it in a shop but I believe it can be bought, only it's pretty rare.

Whisky is just the all-encompassing name for the type of spirit. Bourbon, Scotch, Irish, and Rye are all just different types of whisky. Bourbon is made with corn mash if I'm not mistaken, and Rye Whisky is made with rye grains.
