My Mom passed away Friday, someone stole her wallet later the same day. Not sure what to do now.

first off i just want to say that im sorry for your loss... its never easy... I have worked Deceased care debt collections for quite some time now so i might be able to give you a bit of advice. Having wallets stolen when somebody passes or fraud when someone passes is alot more common than i think you would expect. First try to find out what credit cards and things might have been in her name, then file a police report and advise the officers that you suspect it was the neighbor, they will probably ask the neighbor some questions about it. and possibly even trace the cell phone you never know. you will then want to validate the charges on all her credit cards to see if there was anything charged that shouldnt be there, from that they might be able to get more information about who did it.

I am so sorry for your loss. And honestly, I'd call the cops first thing and tell them what you heard when you texted the cell phone. It might be them but if it isn't, no harm in it.

Thank you all so much for the positive feedback. Last night was my first night without a friend staying with me, so I did this kind of out of a lonely desperation. I actually slept quite well and woke up feeling stronger than expected, and the visitation/funeral/burial are in 4 hours. I did cancel her Capital One credit card Saturday morning and no one had used it yet, however I am sure she had more than one card but I can't find any documents for it. Rest assured, the police will be notified as soon as I return home tonight. Thank you all once again!

Just out of curiosity, why the down votes? My lack of paragraph structure? I almost didn't post just because of how depressing it was to actually write all this out, but to be downvoted on top of that kind of hurts.
