If you had all the economic support to finance studies, people and infrastructure, in order to create a green and self sufficient (not NGO) organization, what would it be?
If money was truly no object, I'd pour everything into setting up a decentralized network of modular community workshops. We've got way too much stuff ending up in landfills just because people don't know how to fix things or don't have the space to do it. It wouldn't be some charity project; it would be a self-sustaining hub where people can come to repair appliances, build furniture from reclaimed wood, or even 3D print parts for stuff they already own instead of buying new.
The whole infrastructure would be powered by local solar setups and greywater recycling systems that I'd build into the workshops themselves. My idea is to make these spaces completely energy independent. If we teach people how to maintain their own gear and grow some of their own food in vertical gardens attached to these buildings, we stop being so dependent on these massive, fragile global supply chains. It’s all about practical skills and keeping things running longer.
I’ve seen too many perfectly good things thrown out just because of a broken belt or a fried circuit board. If we had the right tools and a bit of shared knowledge in every neighborhood, we wouldn't need these bloated organizations to "save" the environment for us. We'd just be doing the work ourselves, and honestly, that’s way more efficient and keeps the money circulating right back into the local community.
