What belief do you respect, despite not holding it yourself?

"Religious beliefs... with an "if". I'm not religious. My faith in God was shattered twofold- from growing up like I did, but also a fire and brimstone-type Sunday School teacher, who taught that, no matter how morally upright you are, no matter how good a person you are, you will still go to Hell. Having nightmares about suffering forever isn't the best thing to do to a five year old child. However, I don't fault anyone their beliefs. Some good people use religion as a personal code and way of life, and I'm perfectly fine with someone using religion as guidance to be a good person. The only "if" is people who try to convert you to it, tell you you're wrong and they're right, or otherwise tell you you'll suffer forever if you don't believe what they believe. "

Peaceful beliefs that do not harm others. As soon as your belief harms someone else I no longer respect it and no one else should either.

Pot smokers. Knock yourself out. I dont smoke pot, but dont care if others smoke. Quite frankly... if it was legal where I lived and it was cheap.... yeah I'd probably do it (dont like smoke, so I'd probably vape or put it in food).

I respect people who are super vocal (read: annoying as hell) in their opposition to abortion. I personally think they're absolutely wrong on the issue, but if I genuinely thought that every abortion was literally the same as murdering a baby, I would probably feel compelled to be pretty fucking obnoxious and loud about it too. In that case, being polite and demure about other people murdering babies would seem like a severe dereliction of moral duty, and arguably an act of personal and social cowardice.

Money isn't everything. Some people are perfectly happy making $40k a year and living modestly, and I think that's totally cool even though I'm a money-hungry bastard

Atheism..... cant fathom or comprehend the idea with what i have seen and what atheists tell me their reasons are for belief, consider it a perfectly rational belief though. Edit: I dont know why i am being downvoted....... i respect the belief.... i dont know what seperates this comment from the rest of them that warrants downvotes.

Drinking or doing drugs. I'm straight edge, so I don't do that stuff. Unlike the vocal minority who say they're better than people who use, I don't care. Just don't try to pressure me into it and I'm ok.

Religious fundamentalism. Yeah, fucked up right? Hear me out, because I'm not talking about ISIS using the word religion to cover up the shit that they do that directly contradicts their own religion. I'm talking about the very dedicated Mormons and Jehova's Witnesses that go door to door to try to convert you, and they do it because they honestly feel obligated to save your soul. Whether they actually are or aren't saving your soul is another matter entirely, but to them, they're trying to help you help yourself. If they can't get you to convert, your soul goes to Hell. That's a pretty god damn big burden to take on, and while I respect the altruistic mindset that entails, that won't stop me from answering the door wearing only a single sock.
