Hey, American Have you noticed that the quality of M&M's chocolate has significantly declined in the last decade or so?

It could be that the ingredients' quality has changed, but it is a known fact that as you grow older your tastebuds change. There's also the economic principle that over time we begin to not enjoy something as much as we have in the past (I forget what this theory/principle is called, if someone can chime in to clarify .). I experienced this when one day I was able to eat onions and bell peppers. I used to hate onions and bell peppers and would avoid them like the plague, but now I cook them and actually EAT them (usually with other ingredients). Sometimes I can even handle raw bell peppers diced in salad... sometimes. More info (although probably not the most reliable source) at: http://library.thinkquest.org/3750/taste/taste.html Let's just hope it's not because M&M's is trying to cut corners by importing the ingredients from certain countries that have not had the best reputation for providing quality ingredients for humans or other animals...

Anybody notice that the mini-Almond Joy only contains one fucking almond now? I bought a bag over Halloween and was pissed to find this out.
It's not just chocolate, it is across the board. Food is made out of the cheapest, nastiest ingredients and additives they can possibly get away with and absolutely pumped full of preservatives so it lasts for eons on store shelves - all to minimize cost and maximize profit. There are some regulations as to what can or cannot be done, but when the manufacturers are making stuff to the lowest allowed level, it is pretty darn bad. Now if there were some really low-cost brands only and people could choose between quality and cheap crap I wouldn't mind, but it's actually difficult to find quality these days. Basically, we're eating trash these days, more so than any generation before us, and it's not getting better - rather the reverse.
I would say it tastes a lot like nastalgia now
So strange, but I was just thinking this at Halloween when eating my kid's candy just wasn't enjoyable anymore. It all tastes horrible. Please keep suggesting other chocolate I can eat.
A little off topic, but I'm sure many of you remember voting blue in. In retrospect, was it a good idea?
I noticed a couple of years ago that 3 Musketeers changed their chocolate to some seemingly-plastic substance.
I couldn't agree more. The shape of M&Ms aren't as round as they used to. Now they are just lop sided and the chocolate isn't as dark as it once was. And when you buy the one with nuts they nuts half the time are a dark color with a paper taste to them
The good news is, there's more high-quality chocolate around now than ever before. Dagoba, Valhrona, Lindt, etc all use high-quality, real ingredients. The bad news is, you'll be paying for that quality. Nobody in their right mind should ever eat candy made by the larger american companies- it's like chewing on a stick of margarine and expecting it to be satisfying.
Another question would be: Has anybody else noticed how Snicker's and other candy bars have gotten smaller (but the price doesn't change) in the last decade?
