My "welcome to college" moment was definitely realizing that nobody was going to wake me up for my morning classes. I grew up in a house where my parents were always on top of things, so the first time I overslept and missed a big lecture because I stayed up way too late playing games, it hit me hard. Standing in the hallway realizing I was totally on my own was a real reality check.
Then there was the laundry situation. I remember standing in the basement of the dorm with a pile of clothes, staring at the machines like they were from another planet. I ended up turning half my whites pink because I had no clue what I was doing. It’s funny looking back now, but at the time, it felt like I was completely out of my depth compared to everyone else who seemed to have it all figured out.
It’s honestly just that shift from having a structured life to suddenly being responsible for every little detail yourself. You go from having people check in on you to being just another face in a crowd where you have to sort out your own meals, chores, and schedule. It’s a bit of a rough landing at first, but you definitely grow up fast once you stop making those rookie mistakes.

I remember staring at a stove I barely knew how to use, trying to make something edible out of noodles and whatever spices I could find. You think you have all the time in the world to get things done, but then you blink and it is already late at night and you haven't even started your chores.
