People in the luxury service sector. What do you do and what was your most interesting experience?
I've spent quite a bit of time working on high-end systems for some pretty exclusive private estates and luxury hotels, so you see a side of people that most folks usually miss. It's wild how much money some people have, but honestly, the vibe in those places is often just as chaotic as anywhere else, just with way better decor and a lot more pressure to keep everything running perfectly 24/7.
The most memorable thing that happened was definitely back at this massive villa where a guest insisted on having a specific smart-lighting setup adjusted to match the exact color of their vintage wine collection. I spent hours tweaking the code and the sensors just to get the hues right. When they finally walked in and saw the room, they didn't even notice the lights, they just complained that the room temperature was off by like half a degree. It’s funny how the stuff you stress over ends up being the least of their worries.
Working in that world really changes your perspective on what "luxury" actually means. A lot of the time it's just really high-maintenance requests that make no sense to normal people. You just learn to nod, get the job done, and move on to the next thing without taking it too personally.
