That book hit me pretty hard back when I first picked it up. Honestly, I wasn't much of a reader then, but holden's voice just felt like someone I actually knew. It wasn't about the fancy literary stuff or hidden meanings for me, it was just that feeling of being completely fed up with how fake everyone acted. It made me realize that feeling like an outsider isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means you're seeing through the noise.
Every time I think back on it, I remember that feeling of wanting to just run away from everything and everyone. It really captured that specific frustration of growing up and realizing the world is full of phonies. It's sad he's gone, but a book like that stays with you forever. It basically taught me that it's okay to be a bit cynical sometimes as long as you're being real with yourself.

It’s not just about the teenage angst though, it’s about that feeling of wanting to protect something innocent in a world that’s trying its best to ruin it. Every time I re-read it, I catch something new. It’s definitely one of those stories that sticks to your ribs. Salinger really knew how to capture that specific kind of loneliness that hits you when you realize you're becoming an adult. Total bummer he's gone, but at least he left us something that actually makes you feel human.
