Homeowners who have added a second floor do their house - did this help with resale, was it worth it?

Usually more square feet represent more money. Let me tell you a story. A lady wanted 100 000 for her house. She advertised it at 120 000 expecting someone to low ball her. After every month it didn't sell she raised it by 10 000. 6 months later her house was advertised at 180 000. Someone was interested and made a low offer. The offer was 130 000. According to that person they got a steal of a deal. Real estate is either in your price range or isn't. If you want to buy a house you will try and find one that is between two prices. Your own personal lowest and highest. Sorry to rant.

It will def help with resale, our house can be sold for almost 1 million and over 1 million in the right market when pretty much all the houses here try to sell for over half a million and usually need to be below to sell but sometimes sell with over a half a million price tag. It's fucking great!
This is not the best forum for this question. And there are a lot of variables. Location, neighboring pricing, style etc. It is usually more cost-effective to add space horizontally by adding a ground floor or even basement rooms. The planning involved in building onto a house vertically is going to cost more than a teardown and rebuild.
Well our house is not on the market, but in terms of property value it increased more than the cost of adding a second floor. Also, given the extra space, totally worth it even at a loss.
