Considering ONLY in-world explanations, and NOT storytelling elements (that it would have ruined the story, be boring, etc), why couldn't Gandalf just summon a Great Eagle to fly Frodo straight from the Shire to the Pit of Doom to destroy the One Ring?

Cevaplar
The eye would have seen them coming and shot them out of the sky, either with arrows or magic or the nazgul.
REKLAM
Because it's about the journey, not the destination.
Because the Eagles don't want to go near that fucking thing.
