In the US, we have HIPAA laws, which prohibit healthcare providers from sharing your medical information with anyone other than whom you designate. However, Americans also have a habit of discussing our medical conditions as 'small talk'. What contradictory practices are in use where you live?

There's no contradiction there. You are free to share whatever details of your life you see fit with whomever you see fit. But other people don't get to share your information without your permission because they are not you.

I don't think there's a contradiction there. When I voluntarily discuss my medical history, I'm tacitly giving my permission for that person or group to know it. They just can't get it from my doctor.
