I was walking through the city and I pass a dog leashed outside, presumably while his owner was inside running errands. Not unusual in Seattle, but this was a few winters back during a pretty epic snowstorm, and this dog was mere feet away from an awning that would shelter him against the falling snow. I agonized for minutes over whether to act. I'm usually a passive person (like most internet nerds, I imagine), but this night I decided to take action, even though I was unsure of the social convention. While I was moving the dog, his owner emerged. He was a kid, sixteen or so (I was 24ish at the time), but he was kind of a punk and blew up at me. And, my biggest regret of the incident, I lost my composure and shouted a bit at him as we went our separate ways. I dunno, I still feel like the principle was sound. Moving a dog a few feet to keep him out of the snow seems like a reasonable thing to do. But I can also understand a pet owner's fear seeing a stranger holding his

So what if the dude was into women? Wouldn't it be kinda mean to lead on a guy like that? What if he started to really dig on your friend and she had to explain that it was a charity move? Wouldn't he be even more humiliated? wow.... Sounds like there's some pitfalls in your guys' airtight plan.  I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't meddle, no matter what the situation may appear to be, or at least measure very carefully the amount you meddle. Like a wildlife documentarian letting the lions eat a baby antelope, just back off man, it's nature.  Obviously this situation wasn't what you both thought it was.

One time I stopped to help another cyclist who was pushing a bike with a flat tire. I biked back to my car to get the floor pump. This guy didn't speak much English. I start pumping and it's up to about 40psi when BLAM!!. The tire hadn't been seated right and it had a blowout. Not much I could do.

"Was working at the grocery and I accidentally dropped a jar filled with beans. Huge mess obviously and had to clean it up. Suddenly a woman approaches me and says something along the lines: "Too bad you spilled it, what a mess!". Which I responded to with: "Yeah, someone has got to clean it."  Few moments later she got extremely mad and offended as she apparently misunderstood what I said.  Not really related, but thought I should share it. "Where I live there's a couple of homeless guys that sell the big issue to try to get themselves back on their feet, and normally i'll try to throw em PS2 or PS3 if I have some spare change on me. Normally most of them end up sorta back up on their feet, but there's still the odd few that still live on the street. Anyway, I'm walking around the town centre at about 10:30PM and give this guy selling the big issue so I give him a couple of quid. Later on me and my friends go pick up a pizza, then decide we're not gonna eat it all and go give it to this homeless guy. I go give it him, and he just stares at me for about 15 seconds before he bursts out with: "What the fuck is this? How the fuck is pizza gonna get me heroin you prick?!" Needless to say, I give that guy fuck all whenever I see him now. TL DR - Give homeless guy half a pizza, he flips shit 'coz it's not heroin.  "

In high school I was hanging out with my friends during lunch at our lockers. A girl nearby leaves her locker unlocked as she goes to class. I pass by her later and tell her that she left her locker unlocked. She gets concerned and runs off. After school, that girl walks up to me and tells me off for being a jerk. Turns out my friend was being helpful and locked her locker without telling anyone.

When I lived in New York I would often see homeless men in the streets begging for money. I usually gave them money until a friend pointed out that it often goes to booze and cigarettes. So I listened to him and started buying sandwiches from like subways etc and giving them. After giving one man a sandwich, became very offended and approached me aggressively. During my apology and explanation I felt him becoming more and more aggravated and aggressive. It became very loud people started to look while walking by. I was trying my best to explain that it was all in good intent but the man was drunk (I think) and not thinking clearly. Police came from i think down the corner and thought I was messing with him...nothing bad happened but not a pleasant experience nonetheless. Was giving a sandwich really that big of a deal?
