No, French wasn’t the official language of England for quite that long. While French did play a significant role for a period, it was more like 300 years.
The Norman Conquest of 1066 brought a French-speaking elite to England. French, specifically a dialect called Anglo-Norman, became the language of the nobility, law courts, and the royal court.
However, the common people still spoke English. Over time, English began to reassert itself, and by the late 14th century, it had become the main spoken language again.
Though English regained dominance, Latin and French continued to be used in legal documents until the 18th century.
