  1. Sometimes it just works better with RPG characters. I play Star Wars: The Old Republic. The Jedi Knight class just doesn’t work for me as a guy. The others are all guys, cause I’m a guy and I’m trying to escape reality. Not the Jedi Knight. And the weird part is, I still totally empathize with my female Jedi Knight as if we were the same gender. My others toons, the empathetic experience is largely dependent on the gender being the same. Straight up, it’s as if I become female when I play my Jedi Knight. I’m an obnoxiously heterosexual male who is a fan of participating in toxic masculinity culture and a lot of the associated behaviors and attitudes. But when I’m a Jedi Knight, chasing down slavers on Mek-sha, I am a strong independent woman, one with the force, Champion of the Jedi order, warden of the old republic, in all my feminine power and glory. And it feels totally right and I don’t have any shame about it. Games can be a crazy ass drug man tell you what.

  2. “For years I picked male because I’m male and one day just thought “why not?” Nowadays I pick based on mechanical differences first, narrative second (typically male but not always), but if there is no mechanical/narrative differences I pick female “

  3. Smaller character so you can hide bettrt

  4. No, I like to pretend I am the character

  5. Why not? I mean, I’m male. I’ve played male characters in every single game ever (except portal as far as I recall) because ….. games cater almost exclusively to young straight men. I think women deserve more representation and respect in media of all kinds. And so basically I figured, fuck it why not? So, I started recently playing female characters. So far, it seems they usually get more and/ or better clothes or costume options (although as others have pointed out, female armor is a joke in a lot of games). …and the game play has been identical.

  6. Only in short games and shooters

  7. I often do, if I am going to be playing a fantasy game I may as well play as a character as different from myself as possible given the chance.

  8. Yes, because I do not want to stare at a dude butt for hours on end. I also like to let my subconscious femininity play itself out in a unreal world. I do not pretend to be female in online games though, except when I was 14 maybe.

  9. Depends. If I have a choice I generally pick a male character mostly because I like to play characters that are similar and relatable to me. But if it’s a game that has a set female protagonist, I don’t really mind playing as a female character.

  10. just cuzz & no i don’t mean in the Perverted way BTW i hate Perverts even if female
