Not really fantasy, but: The Magicians – Lev Grossman Dark and slightly unpleasant, but couldn’t stop reading it The order of odd-fish – James Kennedy Funny and wildly imaginative His Dark Materials – Philip Pullman Beautiful writing, fantastic story
The Abhorsen Trilogy. Never read anything like it. The second book is utterly impossible to put down. I have probably read it 10-15 times. In short, its about a young woman who inherits her father’s job which was to keep the dead from the living world and walk them down the path of death. The universe created in these stories is so detailed i feel that just the back story should have had its own book. It’s that interesting. Seriously, if you don’t read these books, you are missing out.
