"My high school had a "senior lounge" that was an alcove in one of the hallways within view of the vice principal's office. The lounge had a few sofas and chairs that looked utterly bland. One day I lugged in an old bean bag chair that had been in my bedroom since I was eleven. Didn't clear it with anyone in administration, just quietly walked to the lounge and dropped it there. It got talked about for a day because nobody realized how it had gotten there. Then classmates started using it. They loved it. Pretty soon that lounge had half a dozen bean bag chairs, all donated anonymously by fellow members of the senior class. The lounge which had hardly been used by the class before us became a real hangout. Until about a month before graduation when some nitwit unzipped one of the chairs and tossed handfuls of the filling at someone. The vice principal clamped down and by graduation the space had returned to its old sterile blandness. "

Isolated trend in a Discord server. I made a joke that I did [nsfw thing here] with a stick. The stick became a joke that evolved into people reposting the screenshot nearly every day. Then it became an emote that people would spam. About a year late, one of the members made it into a spinning stick emote. It lasted maybe a year and a half and persisted even after I left the server. Finally told the mods and admins to remove the emote because I wanted the trend to die.

Kinda minor, but when I was in high school, I worked at a movie theater. The uniform for floor staff was black slacks and shoes, with a red polo the theater provided. Under the polo, we were supposed to have a plain white shirt. I don't wear white. Ever. So I chose to wear a black undershirt. I got talked to about it every day, even written-up for insubordination. Other guys on the crew agreed with me that black looked better, so they did it too. After a while we managed to convince management that black was better under the polo. Now it's part of the uniform to wear a black shirt under the red polo. ... or at least it was, 10 years ago when I last worked there.

My friend and I started a game at our local pool. When we were like 9/10 we made up this game where we would stand a few feet away from the edge of the deep end of the pool and play Rock Paper Scissors. If you lost, you took a step forward. Repeat until one person is in the pool. We taught it to our other friends and they taught it to their friends and eventually, it seemed like the whole town knew our little game. Still to this day (like 10 years later) we go back and see little kids playing the game we started.

Using steering wheel covers at work. I drive paratransit and after about 150,000 miles, the vinyl steering wheel on a Chevy Express will lose the majority to all of its top surface texture, exposing the raw rubber underneath. This rubber has a very unpleasant feel and as I'm a very tactile person, I could not stand touching it for 9 hours a day and I hate wearing gloves. So one day after being assigned a bus with a particularly atrophied steering wheel, I stopped by AutoZone and nabbed a nice leather steering wheel cover. Everybody thought I was crazy at first but now I'd say probably a third of our drivers have a steering wheel cover in one form or another. Maintenance will replace the steering wheels but only after the metal core is exposed. Let's just say I've helped a few of them along...

I found a way to make a gray, play dough like substance in elementary school by intentionally putting Elmer's glue on my hands and rubbing them together. At my school, Calvin and Hobbes. I was born after C&H had already ended so it wasn't a thing I ever knew about. When I was about 5, I found my Dad's copy of the original compilation book and just kept on reading it. When I was 8, I eventually worked up the courage to take it into school and tell my friends about it. Pretty soon, reading time turned into a bunch of kids huddled around one book until everyone pretty much had their own. Today at 23, I have almost every smaller compilation book and the 3 book complete collection and reading it is still as amazing as the first time I ever saw it.

Im from central Texas and when I was a senior in high school playing football I came up with the idea to run out of our large blow up mascot/cheerleader made sign with the Come and Take it flag. People from Texas know the famous story behind the flag from the battle of Gonzales. The Come and Take it flag quickly became popular at our school. T shirts made, bumper stickers, everyone bought a flag. The trend carried on to other schools in the area. 7 years later and my old team and other teams still run out with that flag. My brother is currently in that same high school football program and all of his team mates dont believe him when he tells the origin story of the flag.
