You should check out work away. Great for finding work for just room and board. I’ve known people getting stuff working for wineries in Spain, working for hostels in Thailand, or babysitting in Germany. There are plenty of options there. If you can scrape together the plane tickets it’s a really good way to get some living abroad into your life.
a car and money for petrol. Its the only way to go across the USA. And the midwest is mostly hospitable so you might find something there for yourself.
I have a friends who is a summer camp director hiring counselors for the summer in Santa Barbara, California. You get paid a stipend, and room and board is paid for. You would probably be an ideal candidate. PM me if you’re interested and I can probably point you in the right direction.
http://www.wwoof.org/ looks like it could be pretty cool way to go to places on the cheap side, but all you get out of it is lodging so you would need some money going in. Also a lot of national parks will hire you and provide cheap/free lodging so those are great.
You could join a cult. Like the Hari Krishnas. But that would involve a whole other set of problems. I think if you hire on for oil rig work – or be a merchant marine, that would give you the room&board and well-paying work you want. No degree necessary for that.

GO WORK ON A SKI HILL!!!! most offer staff accommodations full of cool interesting people and hot girls. Plus you get to Snowboard every day!

Get a temp job, save some cash and start seeing the world. This is something you’ll never regret.
