The first landing on the Moon occurred during NASA’s Apollo 11 mission. The spacecraft landed on the Moon’s surface on July 20, 1969. The astronauts onboard, Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, became the first humans to set foot on the Moon. Neil Armstrong famously took the historic first step, uttering the words, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” The landing site on the Moon was the Mare Tranquillitatis (Sea of Tranquility) region.
